Policies

ID and CNA Policy

How BDVDB identifiers are assigned, and how they relate to CVE IDs.

BDVDB identifiers

Every entry has an identifier in the form BDVDB-YYYY-NNNN, where YYYY is the year the ID was assigned and NNNN is a sequence number. An ID is never reused. If an entry turns out to be invalid or a duplicate, it stays in place and is marked as such.

Relationship to CVE

A BDVDB ID does not replace a CVE ID. When a CVE exists, the entry shows both. BDVDB can publish an entry that has no CVE, for example when a local product is not covered by another numbering authority.

CNA status

BDVDB is [EDIT: not currently / currently] a CVE Numbering Authority. [EDIT: if you become a CNA, describe your scope here.]

Until then, BDVDB requests CVE IDs through the appropriate CNA for the product, or through a CNA of Last Resort. BDVDB does not create or assign CVE IDs itself.
